Former Bears and Cowboys WR Sam Hurd was sentenced to 15 years in prison Wednesday.
Despite earning a $5.15 million contract in July of 2011, Hurd was the Avon Barksdale of the Chicago drug game. He was arrested in December of 2011 at a Chicago steakhouse when he tried to buy a kilogram of cocaine. According to federal documents, Hurd also told an undercover agent he wanted 5-to-10 kilograms of cocaine and 1,000 pounds of marijuana per week to distribute in the Chicago area. He claimed he was already distributing about four kilos per week. There is no parole in the federal system, but inmates like Hurd can apply for early release after serving 85 percent of their sentence.
