The Bears apparently are positioning themselves to be ready to do that as sources confirmed the club plans to meet over the weekend with Seattle Seahawks defensive coordinator Dan Quinn and Denver Broncos offensive coordinator Adam Gase. Another potential coaching candidate being linked to the Bears is former Bills coach Doug Marrone, who opted out of his contract on Wednesday, and reportedly told his team via text message that he wouldn’t be back for 2015. According to the New York Post, Marrone, who posted a record of 15-17 in two seasons, also is scheduled to interview with the Bears.
Chicago also continues to work through the process of finding a general manager, and requested permission to interview Ravens assistant GM Eric DeCosta, Texans director of pro personnel Brian Gaine, Saints director of player personnel Ryan Pace, Titans vice president of player personnel Lake Dawson and Chiefs director of player personnel Chris Ballard, who spent 12 seasons in Chicago prior to joining Kansas City. DeCosta declined an opportunity to interview with the Bears for the second time as he also rebuffed the club in 2012 during a GM search that yielded Phil Emery.
Interestingly, some within the organization have wondered why McCaskey and team president Ted Phillips haven’t reached out to former New York Jets coach Rex Ryan, who reportedly will interview on Sunday with the San Francisco 49ers and is also scheduled to meet with the Atlanta Falcons.
